My c2006 compressor filled with air to capacity. used all the air However, compressor would not switch on to recover air. I flipped the on/off switch but nothing happened. I let it sit to cool down but could not get it to start again. Could it be the pressure switch between the motor and the regulator?

There is usually a regulator where the air coupling is. if not,just add one with some simple fittings and a regulator you can find at home depot in tool dept.

SInce the pressure gauge is not working, replace it. Also remove the regulator and clean it. Be sure to unplug the compressor and drain the tank before you start.

Sounds like the same problem. My compressor would run and pressurize to 125# but no air out the outlet. Turning the pressure reguator knob did nothing. If this is the same then here is my fix which worked great. Before you start bear in mind a new reg is under $20. Make sure the compressor has no air in it. Remove the regulator. Take a needle nose and remove the plastic insert gently from the bottom and inside of the reg. Take out the pressure spring. You should see a threaded shaft and a "c" clip. If there is no washer on the end then what is taking place is when you turn the knob in for more pressure it simply goes down through the center of the spring and exerts no pressure on the plastic insert which applies pressure to the valve. Thus no pressure. I simply removed the "c" clip, placed a generic washer placed on the end. The hole of the washer should allow it to sit on the end of the threaded end without going down the shaft and center protruding an 1/8" or so. Naturally the washer should easily fit inside the regulator housing. Now slip the "c" clip back on, back it out the knob all the way( don't force) and reassemble. Have no idea what is suppose to be in there from the factory but the problem was when I took mine apart there was nothing pushing on the spring which pushes on the nylon plastic insert which regulates the air at the outlet. According to Porter-Cable (Delta) themselves, they had lots of bad regulators on these compressors. I'm waiting for one myself. Same issue

first you have a reciprocating pump and the hissing you ear probably comes from the unloading valve on the pressure switch(it will look like a bike tire valve)if there is air coming out the valve when the compressor is off it probably means you have a bad check valve.This valve is use to unload the pressure inside the pump for an easy start .a motor always drive more amps on start up if you cant unload this pressure you will trip the overload(you probably have a reset button on your motor)check the specs on your pressure relief valve ,its a small pump maybe its just adjusted to high.in this case your pressure relief valve will open .If the pressure is fine and there is air coming out the relief valve then you have to replace it!to adjust your pressure turn the screw on your pressure switch clockwise to increase and counterclockwise to decrease .usually you have a 30 psi between cut-in and cut-off called the pressure differential.It can be adjusted on some pressure switch.be sure you put some teflon tape on the treads if you replace something to avoid air leaks.hopes this help!
