D-link problem My ISP say's that the cable modem is letting my desktop computer on the enternet and not my laptop. they the modem is holding the Mac addresses.

Yes, this can be a problem with the modem that you have first thing that you need to do here is to reset the modem and reconfigure it back, but if after that still have the same problem better contact your ISP and ask them if everything is working from their end...

SOURCE: ARRIS Modem + D-Link router = no internet

when you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).

put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.

check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)

access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.
