It cud be because of a mismatched or defective harddrive component...thats why it freezes ur computer..try ur hard drive with another computer to rule out if there is a problem with ur hard drive...then update me

Well you will have to back-up the files first by using a file recovery tool while the HDD is in another machine. once it is retrieved, format the HDD then reinstall your OS, then load the files you had in it previously, or re-load a snap-shot of the HDD before formatting. im speaking generally okay, this may depend on how the HDD was locked.

If your computer is getting locked up as soon as you plug in the hard drive. Than the first step would be to check the same Hard Drive on another computer and backup the data if you get the access to it.
If your computer is freezing up otherwise as well. Than it could be spywares on the computer.
In that case download the free superantispyware software from here and do a complete scan on your computer.
Also see if your harddrive does not show up in the My Computer, than it could be an issue with the harddrive. In this case try changing the cable and use different ports on the computer. (Try to check the hard drive on other computer).
Else you will have to take to vendor.
