I assume that your phone is unlocked and in working order (does it work with any other SIM?).
You need to either manually or automatically select the correct network and GSM band for your specific SIM card.
The J108 is a GSM Quad band phone:
GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, 3G 2100
