Is very possible that the battery is dead, Check the LEDs on the battery itself, sometimes you have to deattach the battery for can to see them.
If the LEDs blink or not light in sequence (one one, the next off and so on) then your battery is gone, if everithing seems to be right there then the problem is the charger, try with other one.
if charger is good then the problem could be in the circuits that manage the energy in the motherboard.
