SOURCE: Acer TravelMate 4502LCi Not booting as far as BIOS

Hi, normally if you are unable to boot up to BIOS your laptop will sound a number of beeps to tell you that something is wrong, So if you are not hearing any beeps and something is happening on your laptop then I think you could be right and the cmos settings of your BIOS have gotten corrupted.
The only way to reset your BIOS settings without being logged on is to physically remove the battery from the motherboard.
If when you replace it it still doesnt boot up, try replacing the battery with a new one.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: toshiba notebook HDD problem

I think you may find your hard drive has failed? I suggest that you replace the hard drive with a new one. But, just to check.. remove the hard Drive from the machine... (usually acessable under the machine via a couple of screws and usually just slides out etc) Then try to "Boot" the machine from CD or floppy.. (on say ya Windows XP CD, choosing Boot from CD from PC menu) if it does.. then it IS ya HD, if not then ya may have a Motherboard fault. So do NOT change the drive.. at this juncture I would suggest ya go to a reputable PC repairer and ask for a "Quote" for the fix, and an explanation of what is/was wrong.

Remove the battery, and the memory cover (1 screw), and the memory module(s). Under the bottom memory module, there is a white sticker (the bigger sticker)... remove that, and there is a small copper lead labeled J2 that looks like two E's mated with each other, you need to short the E's to each other for about 30 seconds with something metal. Put at least one memory module back in, and the battery, and try booting. If it still has a password, try again for a little longer, or press a little harder with the metal object to ensure you are making a connection.
