Codecs problem! Hi i have a Toshiba P300-equium 1-90 laptop since august 2008,it,s running good no probs! I recently discovered that my cd drive was not working properly (windows media) When i insert a disk into the drive music or game disk I get a error sign coming up codecs error.And yes it used to work b4 fine no probs i.e music games ripping burning and watching movies plz help what can i do...........!

So the CD drive is fine when you're just looking for files on the CD, but when you try to play music or a game, you get a codec error? It was running fine before?

It is possible that a windows update compromised the codecs you had on your computer and that you'll need to update them. You can go to Microsoft or Download.com to download the latest media codecs.

Try installing the K-Lite codec pack. This installs many of the required codecs for your system. It is available from: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm. The standard version should get you covered.
