I was getting a constant "Paper Jam" message, even though I thought I had cleared the jam. If you are having this problem, go to this site:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/eu/gb/en/faq/faq/000000/000400/000095/faq000495_002.html?reg=eu&c=gb&lang=en&prod=mfc210c_all&Cat=4

I didn't realize there was a removable cover on the back of the printer. I took it off, and sure enough there was a small triangle of paper approximately 1/2" on a side jammed in one corner. Earlier, when I removed the larger piece of paper, I had not noticed the missing corner. Fixed the problem!

SOURCE: Brother HL 5250 DN status shows "error". Won't print.

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

here's how you do it..
for Windows XP:
