With the indulgence of bbtoast and DARKLORD1...

This is a known common problem with most Panasonic DVD units. An HO3 error display indicates a "Traverse Servo Problem". The traverse servo is the motor that drives/moves the optical pickup (lens + cradle) to slide along a shaft while reading the disc.

A HO3 error could either indicate problem in the:
1. shafting/slider: possibly clogged with dust, dirt or dried up lubrication;
2. stuck up/defective traverse motor;
3. defective wiring connection, electronic regulator/controller.

As you will note, all of the above requires opening the unit and component level repair. Since this would need familiarity with electronic components/circuitry, use of a DVM and possible a soldering iron, perhaps you might be better off seeking the services of a qualified professional.

I experienced the same dreaded H03 error code recently. The fix was simple:

Open the DVD lid. In the center is the black plastic spindle. To the right of the spindle is the laser reader which slides from side to side.

When my player was in error mode, the laser reader was stuck in the far right position on the track. To fix the problem, gently, but firmly push the laser reader to the right until it clicks in to proper position. For mine, I pushed it to the right about an eighth of an inch before it clicked.

Insert a disc, and turn the player on. This should fix the problem, at least it did with mine.

Hi the code HO3 relates to their being a problem with the laser you could try using a lense cleaner and see if its just dust or something like that failing that its going to be getting the laser replaced let me know if you need further assistance.

I have an LS82 and the following advice from www.avsforum.com fixed the problem for me. Note that the number of screws that hold the bottom on the machine vary depending on the model. Also the server frame might be plastic instead of metal:

I do believe when we press the back space for long time it will take the laser lamb beyond its limit and get stuck at the end of the rotating shaft so the servo motor gets difficulty and resistance to get it back to tract
all you have to do is open the back of the LS50 " 12 small screws"
when you remove the back cover be carful not to damage the cables .
you will find the servo motor and laser lamb on one metal structure hanged to the body by three rubber suspensions
remove the whole structre and turn it upside down slowly
move the small black rotating joints up or down you will notice the the mechanical shaft will start rotating and the laser lamb will start to move away from the servo motor relasing it from where it get stuck
and it will work perfect after that
return the back cover and screw the 12 screws and you are done
