OCR problem I have a lexmark X4270 all in one printer when I scan a document it tells me I need to download the OCR for word. Where would I get that?

    Keep in mind you may have to install the document imaging from your office cd before you go thru the tutorial just to let you know.

To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark scan software (no downloadable version) is only available on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.


To install the OCR scan software from the printer installation CD:

  1. Insert CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation screen open, click Cancel.
  2. Double-click on My Computer / Computer.
  3. Right-click on Lexmark XXXX CD and select Open.
  4. Double-click on OCR.
  5. Double-click on Setup.exe to install the OCR software. Your operating system will then determine the language in which it is installed.

Scanning a document using your Lexmark printer requires the Lexmark OCR scan software installed on your computer. You can download the scan software using only the installation disc that came with your printer. Lexmark OCR scan software is not available for download. For your scanning concern, especially when scanning documents, you will need the Lexmark OCR scan software to do the job. How do I scan a document on Lexmark x4270?
Perhaps the Lexmark X4270 user's guide will be able to help you. You can view and print your printer's user guide from the Lexmark website for free. Click on this link Lexmark X4200 Series User's Guide. Scroll to Scanning for the steps on how to scan a document. Make sure the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your computer. My X4270 will not scan, keeps saying i need my ocr software. but I have reinstalled lexmark all in one .
You can run your lexmark cd installer again and select custom installation and click on install additional software,, now make sure that you are going to put checks on the boxes especially your abby finereader

go to this site http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi
put in your country etc.......
choose the x1240 in the driver box.......then search
choose windows vistamag-glass_10x10.gif from the operating dropdown box.......
click on download now and then install the new driver.....

Go to the Lexmark website and download the full install for the printer application or run the setup on the CD. "Driver only" installations through Windows Add/Remove Hardware might not add the OCR components.
