The glass cover definitely unscrews anti-clockwise, but mine was impossible to start moving by hand. I used a pair of adjustable pliers and while the glass cover is made out of pretty thick glass, I didn't want to be squeezing it so I set the pliers jaws to exactly the same width as the glass cover. Because the glass cover has 4 bumps set around it, the pliers jammed on them so I was able to unscrew it.
BTW, the globe under the cover is also a screw mount job - if you're looking for a replacement, keep in mind that it has to be a max of 25W.

I have just replaced mine & had the same problem. I couldnt remove the cover. I found that I just couldnt grip the cover well enough. I got some rubber washing up gloves & used them to grip the cover. It was still tight but it un skrewd quite easy this way.
