J1 means your machine has detected an empty toner cartridge. You may be able to shake it and get some more copies out of it. but on that machine J1 is pretty accurate.

There are several possibilities for the cause of the error message. Discerning which is applicable may well be a job for a technician. The error code E110-0002 on your Canon iR Advance 4045 indicates a failure of the Polygon Motor (M11). If the connector is not loose, replacement of a component may be necessary. It would likely require a Canon service representative to determine which, although the error message suggests the Polygon Motor.
Check connection of the Connector (J1/J7/J10/J21/J208/ J8142/J8143).
J1 code on the XD100 series means that your toner cartridge is empty. You will need to order in a new one or have your existing cartridge refilled. Refills run about $60.00 and new ones are in the $100 to $125 range.

Make sure you have the right code: J1 or J2.
one is for the drum and the other is for the ink.
Make sure the toner unit is for this model and not for a different model.
If the old modual is still available, check the connectors at the back and see if they are the same.
If anything else Call Xerox for repair. If the cartridge was bought through Xerox have your reciete available for warrenty.
If repairs still need to be made, A Xerox service call may be needed in order to fully repair the copier and warrenty the cartridge.
J1 is detecting either a low or out of toner condition.
Maybe just need to have the cartridge shook, replaced or it could lastly need the toner sensor replaced.
