I bought a few computers cheap and I only stated them up enough to see if they worked. When I got home I found out that I could not log on because I didn't have user name or password. I was told to take out the bios battery adn then put it back in. bad advice it went to a black and white screen, only asking for the password. after a few feable attempts at guessing what it might be, it won't let me type anything in the space for the password instead it says you've had 3 attempts Noww you must power down! Hehe like its about to explode. How do I boot this thing--It's XP pro
I just copy and paste from the web then:'
There are 2 ways you can reset your bios.
1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in your system. Your reset is now complete
2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete
This is a great troubleshooting step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.
OPEN THE TOWER & THE PLACE WHERE U REMOVED THE BIOS BATTERY JUST NEXT TO THAT THERE IS A JUMPER JUST REMOVE THAT & START THE PC & YOU WILL HEAR A BEEP SOUND & THEN RESTART THE PC & FIX THE JUMPER BACK & START THE PC.
SHOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE

Once we removed the bios battery and put it back in it went to a black and white screen like a dos prompt --but the only thing you can punch in, is the pass ---Password ___________ after a few tries at different words it says "You have had 3 tries now power down!" Now when I restart it goes to the same prompt but now it won't let me type anything like the keyboard is dead, Except when I try to type it immediately says you have had 4 tries now power down. Never makes it to windows xp log in window since I removed and replaced the bios battery I would appreciate any help you can give me
Do you need a password at the beginning of the boot, before windows is loaded, or do you need the password at the windows xp login?
