Some times the wire for the ignitor will get burned inside the chamber, if this happens you will not get a spark and will need a tech, but turn the gas valve to the piliot position hold down the button on the gas valve while clicking the electric ignitor button, look thru the site glass towards the left side of the burner assembly while doing this, if there is no spark it will have to be taken apart and replace the spark ignitor, not a big job you just have to make sure the seal on the burner cover doesn't tear or get damaged

Have a richmond 6G40-36F1 hot water heater had to turn off gas for another issue, now igniter doesnt spark and pilot wont light

Not to sound silly, but are you pushing the igniter button down hard enough so it snaps? If so, your igniter is no good. Try to light the water heater the old fashioned way by using a match. I would use fireplace matches since they are long enough to reach the pilot light point.

We had to turn the gas off to connect the dryer, now we can't get the pilot light to turn on. we followed the directions on the water heater 5 or 6 times with no luck. It seems the pilot light will not...

I would suggest that you remove pilot assembly from gas valve and burner and clean pilot orifice and see if that helps. Be careful when cleaning hole in the orifice so you don't enlarge the hole. Good luck and thank you.

New gas water heater pilot light will not ignite

Hi .. if this is a brand new heater, then you probably need to have the gas line bled. This means getting all the air out of the gas line feeding the burner. This can be done by constantly trying to light the burner or poilot . or it can be bled down by a HVAC tech.

Wont light

Is there a spark? or do you need a long match? The button usually just opens the pilot so it can be lit. If its not electronic.

Pilot light starts, but gas does not ignite.

IF no gas comes and the piolet is lit then the gas valve is stuck. You can purchase a seperate gas valve and replace it. If it is cost justified ,you will have to determine. As far as I know, one  cannot disassemble and repair the gas valve as you cannot purchase the parts for it.
