This is usually the only reason you get the software counterfeiting message. There are programs available that will let you see the product key that is registered on your machine so you can validate the product key registered on your machine.

Counterfeiting

Use only Windows XP Service Pack2 from authorized technicians or from your dealer. Otherwise, your installation might not work well. Try another XP SP2 from another source and proceed with the Installation. Ask also the real Product key of the OS from the Provider.

Don't do anything online. You're probably installed WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage).

Try to find REMOVE WGA on www.softpedia.com

That little hack tool should solve your problem.

Or simply reinstall your OS.

Windows sp counterfeiting problem

I had a friend who had a copy of xp, said the same thing.
You have a copy of xp that has been registered with microsoft already.
time to buy a copy.
never good to get pirated copies of any software, esp operating systems.
