Initially, the error code E1001 on a Kenwood DV-5700 indicates a fault in the mechanism or more particularly, the main processor could not detect presence of and/or correct operations of the DVD deck. This is an internal hardware issue requiring that the Kenwood be opened up to effect repairs. Unfortunately, no quick easy fix.
