Hi Raymond, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC40 doesn't actually have a separate reset button, as the brush bar reset mechanism is built into the on/off and brush control switches on the machine's upper body. If possible can you confirm exactly which machine you have, and which part you're trying to replace?

Alternatively if you'd prefer, you're welcome to contact our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

When i am vacumming i can nly do 1 room at a time because th dyson d40 shuts off, comes back after about 15 mins, then shuts off after every room.

Hi Fran, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC40 will shut off for protection if it starts to overheat. This will often be due to a blockage - the filters may also need a wash. The machine should reset itself automatically after it's had time to cool down - however, please follow the steps below to prevent this from reoccurring.

To check for blockages, please follow each of the checkpoints shown in our online Support guides: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc40/dc40-animal-tft/maintaining-your-dyson-machine/removing-blockages-from-the-main-body

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc40/dc40-animal-tft/maintaining-your-dyson-machine/removing-blockages-from-the-wand-and-hose

In normal use, both filters should be washed at least once a month using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine:

I'm confident removing any blockages and washing both filters will resolve the issue. However, Dyson experts are on hand to help, and you're welcome to get in touch directly if you'd like any further assistance. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson dc40 animal brush is not spinning

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

As with most Dyson upright vacuums, DC40's brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something jams it. Once you've checked the cleaner head for any obstructions and removed any threads or hair from around the brush bar, you should be able to reset your machine:

The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so make sure you recline it into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you'd like some further help from our experts after giving this a try, you're welcome to call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). In the unlikely event that a repair or a replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if your DC40 is within the Dyson guarantee period.

Wand will not release from vacum

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

As long as your DC40's wand was replaced correctly on the vacuum the last time it was used, it should lift easily away from the main body, as shown in our video guide below. There are no buttons or catches to undo:

If the wand appears to be jammed in place, we'd need to take some further details to help you resolve this issue. When you have your DC40 easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you, and helping you release the wand.

My dc40 du son shut down. I took apart and cleaned everywhere I could. The brushes work but motor for vac won't start

Hi Rusty, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC40 is engineered to shut off for protection if it starts to overheat, and from your description it sounds like this has happened. This will often be due to a blockage, or because the filters are overdue for a wash.

The machine should reset automatically after it's been allowed to cool down for at least 2 hours. But to prevent it happening again, we would recommend running through each of the following simple checks:

In normal use we recommend washing both of DC40's filters at least once a month, using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them.

I'm confident that this will resolve the issue. However, our experts are on hand to help if you have any further difficulties - you can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dc40 BRUSH BAR WILL NOT TURN - WHY

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

As with many Dyson upright vacuums, DC40's brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something - for example, a shoelace or a rug fringe - jams it. To reset your machine, please follow the steps shown in our video guide:

Checking the cleaner head for any obstructions, and removing any threads or hair from the brush bar and end caps, should resolve the issue. However if you would like further assistance from our experts after giving this a try, please give our experts a call directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I have the Dyson DC40 and sometimes the power button doesn't engage. Any suggestions?

Hi Lydia, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's important to make sure the on/off switch is pressed firmly each time to ensure it engages. If you're concerned it's not working correctly, please get in touch so we can confirm if a repair may be needed. You can reach the Dyson customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).
