Black insert/rectangle when trying to play dvd at regular speed a black rectangle approximately the size of the menu shaded area appears on the screen. i tried a different player with same results. The rectangle is not present when you fast forward and will not be present upon initial start up or when switching modes but quickly reappears. i have tried feeding with S-video and using the different jacks avaliable. This also appears when I feed TV from 75 ohm cable jack, not thru cable/hd converter box. Regular program viewing is unaffected.

    Leadtech,

Problem solved! In this case I needed to access the Position/Size command from the Other menu ( not always highlighted so it is sometimes inaccessible) Once I made a change in screen size the black rectangle dissapeared. I have no idea how this command was changed but with three college age daughters as the primary users of the DVD player I can only imagine. Thanks for your help.

T he text mode in the closed caption is turned on.
Turn off the closed caption.
I don't have the schematic in front of me, so, I will try from memory.
There may be a button on the remote that says CC, if so then use that button to turn it off, if not then go to the customer menu and you may have to search a bit.
Either way it's an easy fix and you can do it yourself.
I f you can't find it, then, reply and I will give better instructions when I get into my shop next week.
