Invalid lamp ballast id on 16k Christie This happens when the projector is powered up and the on button pushed. The lamp will strike after many tries ie dropping power and re powering once running no worries.

To solve this problem, simultaneously press the "Input", "Enter", and "Undo" buttons. While holding these buttons, press "On". When the project turns on, you should see "LAMP 100%". This indicates that you have successfully reset the lamp life timer.

if the new lamp doesn't have a problem, then it's not the ballast, it's just a bad bulb. especially if you didn't get it from infocus. the cheaper lamps don't last long. you get what you pay for.

first off, many churches and schools hang their projectors from the ceiling, and the only time they take them down is when they don't work. it sounds rational, but it gets dusty up there, and without proper and relatively frequent cleaning, the dust builds up and the projector can't release the heat properly. this causes a lot of malfunctions. the ballast is only one of them.

to replace the ballast:

make sure you can get the part from infocus or an authorized service center. it's part # 525-0085-51. after you remove the cover (4 screws on the bottom. you'll need a T10 torx driver. slowly slide the top forward and lift off), gently remove the ribbon cable by sliding the cable locks (on both sides of the cable) towards the front and pulling the cable out. the ballast is at the front of the projector next to the lens and in front of the lamp. pull it out and remove the ballast from it's housing. there are 3 cables coming off- the power plug, the lamp plug, and the lamp enable plug. remove those and replace the ballast. reverse the steps to install.

It's most likely the lamp is bad or the part that starts the lamp called a ballast is bad. The LP540 model has an issue with the ballast burning out. The ballast is a part that starts or strikes the lamp. The only sure way to test is to try starting it with a known good lamp.
You can check for signs of a bad lamp. Think about how long you've had your projector & estimate the total hours on your lamp. If it's over 500 it very well could be the lamp as they fail at any time. Remove the lamp cover door & pull out the lamp to visually inspect it. Look in good light & use a magnifier if available too check for any cracks or chips in the small bulb & look to see if the round part of the small bulb is covered with a lot of white or if it's not round anymore. If it's very white it means it has a lot of hours on it. If there's any loose glass inside (check by turning the lamp cage in different directions) then the lamp is bad. If it's nice & clear or has only a small white spot it's probably a good lamp.

Or you could test it with just a burner which would be even cheaper. LumenArc sell burners individually. Your problem could be a ballast as well.
