Yes check the battery by all means, do that first off before changing jumper settings. I've had 3 PC's do this on me awhile ago, 1 was the battery, the other 2 the boards just stopped dead, both MS 6309.
Yes you can check battery is out or not also check for RAM. make sureRAM is not faulty
