Laptop picks up wireless signal but cant get on internet
Hi friend
I hope it will work for you,please follow the steps;
before configuring the wireless settings on the router make sure you are getting an up and running internet connection from your ISP. If you have windows XP please follow these
1)connect any computer to the router with a blue cable,thats a ehternet cable
2)click start menu>run>type cmd and hit enter
3)In the black box at the right end where the cursor is blinking type ipconfig/all and note down default gateway.
4) Open the internet explorer page and delete evrything from the address bar and type the number which you have noted down and hit enter
5) Username(blank,do not type anything) and password-admin(lower case)
6) you will see the linksys page,click the tab named SECURITY
7) uncheck the box which says filter anonymous internet request
8) Click save settings,after few seconds you will be back to the same page
9) Now click advanced wireless settings tab,on the black bar
10) change the settings of the things as
beacon interval-75
fragmentation threshold-2306
rts threshold-2307
and click save settings
Then unplug the power cable from back of the router and wait for 30 secs and again re plug it
After trying these if you still not able to connect to the internet through wireless,then follow the steps
1)open the website www.linksys.com/download
2) Enter the model number of your router and hit enter
3) click get download and drivers
4) select the version and scroll down little
5) download the firmware and save it to desktop
6) open the internet explorer and type the default gateway number,username-blank,password-admin
7) click the tab named Administration
8)under administration you will see firmware,click that
9) now click browse and select the file you have saved on the desktop and start upgrade
10) unplug the power cable and wait for 30 secs
11)plug it back and enjoy using internet wireless

Try to connect directly to the router ( wired ) and confirm if its working .
Once that is done , go to a place closer to teh router. With good signal strength.
Open your command prompt and type in Ipconfig. This is to see if your computer is getting a IP address from your router.If it is in the same range as in your router, 192.168... , then it means your computer is communicating with the router. Else, make sure you are connecting to the correct network and your security key is correct.
