Complete uninstall and update your version
with XP:
1. Click the "Start" menu and select "Run."
2. Type "appwiz.cpl" and press "OK." (This is a shortcut to "Add or Remove Programs.")
3. Select "Yahoo! Messenger" and click "Change/Remove."
4. In the window that opens, click "Finish" to uninstall.
5. Click the "Start" menu and select "Run" again.
6. Type in "%ProgramFiles%\Yahoo!\" and press Enter.
7. Delete the "Messenger" folder.
With vista:
1. Click the "Start" menu and select "Run." If you do not see the Run command, then select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.
2. Type in "appwiz.cpl" and press Enter. This opens "Programs and Features."
3. Select "Yahoo! Messenger" and click "Uninstall."
4. Click the "Start" menu and select "Run" again.
5. Type in "%ProgramFiles%\Yahoo!\" and press Enter.
6. Delete the "Messenger" folder.
