Thank you for your advice, but I have actually already tried downloading the updates directly from the site you indicated, but I receive the error messages indicating that I could not get the updates. Is there another recommendation (s) to solving my issue?

i have the exact same problem... problem is that i've tried manually downloading and installing them... and the other problem is that it tells me that the application isn't a valid win32 application!!! Only update i was successful in manually installing was the windows installer 3.1... But my list differs every time... at present it only wants to install windows genuine advantage tool... and i've tried installing but its "not a valid win32 program"...

Is there a problem with Microsoft Updates these days? Because this isn't the first time dealing with this... but this specific pc is standing for a week now...(i'm a Technician)... The other PC's gave me the same problem but after a few reboots it was downloading and installing by itself....

Dear Sir/ Madam,

please copy the files below -- It Unregisters and Reregister all dll files required for windows update. Sorry for using a technical term but it also renames the catroot folder.
You need to copy the files in a notepad and save as .bat format eg.
win.bat.
Once you do that you will have an icon on the dekstop please double click and it will run the batch file. Restart the computer and try doing windows update. please let me know if its a success.

Thanks & Regard
Rahul

First try to restore the system to your restore point created earlier, Then update one by one, if any one fails, then it will show for any problem i.e. not installed properly, then you can roll back the Patch/Fix. Req download the patch/fix from microsoft site then install in the system.

I recommend opening internet explorer and going to the Windows Update site HERE.
You can then get the updates from there. It is possible you have missed an update to the Windows Update Client and that is why it can't get the updates automatically.

Can you tell me what errors or messages appear at the Microsoft update site so I can assist further?

You may want to try Dial-a-fix if your running Windows XP, this can solve many windows update problems.

Download HERE and wiki for it HERE.
