For no apparent cause I get a small checkerboard pattern on the TV. No TV image, no menus, nothing but this pattern which degrades into hazy colored horizontal lines in broad vertical columns. Lamp and status lights are off. No response from a reset. Performed self diagnostic test but I cannot see a result as the screen shows no image. I can turn the TV off and on. I disconnected all components and ran the cable directly in and it did not help. We have had no surges or storms in the last 24 hours and the set is on a surge suppressor. Any ideas?
Your set has a defective FMT (Formatter) board. If you are looking at the back of your set it is a board inside the metal housing on the left. It is difficult to get too but if you can or are experienced in electronics there are a handful of bad capacitors on this board. You could also replace the board this would take care of your problem.
