Go into SETUP
GENERAL SETUP PAGE
Go to VIDEO OUTPUT (can't see through error message, but it is the second one down - If you are on the right one, you will see S-Video, YUV Interlace and YUV Progress. as choices)
Change setting from YUV Progress to YUV Interlace
Mine was set on YUV Progress. and when I changed it, the problem disappeared.
RCA DVD/VHS player split screen related to "progressive scan" or "PSCAN" , there may be a toggle switch (mine was on the back) for normal display

Exactly same problem almost verbatum. Cannot figure out how to turn off
pscan.
