I Have a 60Gb Nomad Zen Xtra device and when I was trying to update the firmware (following the instructions: xp system with windows media player 10), the current firmware was deleted and no firmware installed, now when I turn on the device only appears the following message screen:

    Rescue Mode v1.13

    Boot v1.4, HW v0.01

    1. Clean Up

    2. Format All

    3. Reload OS

    4. Reboot

I've tryied all the options and nothing happens

ALso when I run the program that is supposed to upload the firmware (ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03) it says that the device is not connected, even if the system recognizes it, installs the drivers and shows it as a 20Mb device.

What should I do to use again the device?

    Thanks for any help.

    Identical problem

  • Anonymous May 14, 2008

    Hi

Finally solved de problem after 3 months of trying and trying...

    What I did?

    1. Connected the Nomad on a XP with Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
    2. Updated WMP 9 to WMPlayer 10 and restart the computer
    3. Connected the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers
    4. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03 )" and finally the magic button that always was disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.

And now it is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where it works and the others where I also tryed many times (uninstalling Windows Media Player 11 and uninstalling the creative drivers) is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.

Hope this help someone, sometime, somewhere

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.

    What I did?
    1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
    2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
    3. Restart the computer
    4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
    5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
    6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.

And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.

Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....

Whats the problem your having?

Make sure you have media player 11

If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.

Download recovery tool off creative's website.

go to my computer > click on hardware tab >

click on device manager button > in the is next screen on the bottom should have>>universal serial bus controllers

(write these down just in case it cant find them)

right click on them and uninstall

    reboot let windows reinstall them

Also told Microsoft hotfix causes this problem try uninstalling the last hotfix

If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable

    good luck
