When I try to delete a name from my contacts list I keep getting a 40402 error code......I cant get rid of it !!

This is a yahoo server error code
It can happen if you try and try and amend contacts from your friends list before your address book
Go to yahoo mail page > contacts > address book >check box next to contact to be deleted > delete
Open Messenger.
Right click on contacts avatar > delete
