I called Sharp and told them about our problem. At first they denied even knowing about this kind of problem but after some back and forth, they finally gave me a case number and told me to call back on Monday (this was on a Saturday). I did that and at first they didn't want to admit anything there either but again, after some back and forth, they agreed to have the set fixed by a local company (under contract with them I suppose). When the people called to tell us when they were coming we told them that they had told us that they would be there a few days later and the service people said 'yeah, but we got the part in sooner'. So what does that tell you? They do KNOW about this problem - it's just getting them to admit it. The service guy brought some new boards out but they didn't fit so they had to take the set in while they ordered new boards. That took almost 2 weeks but we've got it back now and haven't had any more problems with it. Our set was over 2 years old but I didn't know it at the time - I thought it was just over 1 year old. But we did give them the model and serial number and am happy with the way things turned out. We live in Texas so I don't know how anybody else's problems were handled.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.
Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.
Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.
The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.
1The
internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic
charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read
by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the
protection circuit.
2 The protection circuit detected a wrong
voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in
, starting the flashing light.
If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours,sometimes even minutes.
If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.
If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be
inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a
multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to
read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem
On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.
On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.
On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.

If your remote is Version 6 then you will be able to follow the help on the sky box under

Then follow the steps using code 1221
If you have a Revolution 8 remote then you will have an easier job but with a 3 digit code.
3 digit code is 253
TO PROGRAM THE remote USING THE 3 DIGIT CODE:
1. Turn
on the TV receiver
2. Press TV on the Sky Remote Control
3.
Hold down SELECT and the RED buttons together for approximately two
seconds, until the RED LED on the Sky remote blinks twice.
4.
Enter three digit code from list for the receiver (early versions now
flash twice).
5. Press select to enter code structure (the LED
will flash twice if a valid code has been entered).
6. Now press
the STDBY button and test other functions.

Factory Default Reset:
- Unplug the TV and count to 10 slowly.
- Hold down the power button on the TV (not the remote.)
- Plug in the TV while holding power button.
- Count to 10 and release the power button.
- Turn it on and hope for the best.
