Windows is widely used and pretty user friendly. Many programs and applications are available for the windows platform and therefore are reasonably priced. Most windows computers are a bit less expensive than the Mac computers. Windows does have a tendency to need restarting on a regular basis, however, this has become less necessary with the latest windows platforms. Windows is also known to get viruses.

Mac is becoming more popular and those who use them generally like them. Mac computers are a smaller percentage of computers used by business and individuals and many people are not familiar with the Mac platform. Mac is reported to be more stable and less likely to get viruses.
Many programs are being set up to be used by Mac computers.

Horrible Operating systems. Unfortunately, if you buy a new computer you are saddled with them. Stay with XP or Win 7. If not, good luck - you will need it! Very steep learning curve.
