Some universal remotes still won't allow you to access the menu. If you get a universal remote that will do everything except access the menu, there is a back door into the menu.
You need to hold the volume down button on the tv and then the 0 button on the remote. After a couple of seconds of holding them both down, it will take you to the menu to change a password. From here you can use the tv's volume and channel buttons to navigate the menu.
