I have a small (Devilbliss 1 hp 2.5 gal) air compressor that simply stopped running. It had been running, then I shut it off for a few minutes. When I turned it back on, it attempted to start, running for 2 seconds, then shut off, never to start again. I checked the electrical outlet, there is power there. Help?? John Crampton

Hi again, I do not think it was because it is too cold. It is possible but the fact you ahd used it and it was already warm sort of rules that out. You are going to have to read the motor winding at the pressure switch by reading for continuity / resistance across the 2 output terminals that go to the motor. If there is no resistance then the motor winding has failed. If there is resistance.... for testing only connect the power lead directly to the motor terminals of the presure switch. Do not let the unit run for very long. (If it runs at all!) If it does run.. then the pressure switch has a problem and it should be replaced.

Item 34 appears to be the pressure switch. It is not shown in the details.

These switches are very common and can be purchased at home improvement stores and Sears.

I do not see any start or run capacitors for this unit... only power, pressure switch and the motor.

The manuals for this are about a clear a mud. If you have capacitor(s) on your unit.. to test them you set the meter on R X 10,000 and probe the capacitor terminals. You should see a brief jump and then the meter return to infinity. Reverse the test leads and do it again looking for another jump... EACH time the leads are reversed. No Jump = bad capacitor. If it reads constant resistance it is shorted internally. That is about the best I can do from here John. Feel free to ask any questions.
