Unfortunately the K8V-MX is slot 754 and will not work with a socket 478 processor.Be sure to check your processors pins if you actually installed it into the socket as some of the pins may verry well have been bent or worse. And if they are bent be verry careful straitening them as they will snap off quite easily.Hope this helps! And sorry for the problems.

Fastening Bracket for HP PC m270n PC CPU are broken and cannot fasten heat sink to CPU

Uses Intel processors, that fit in a Socket 478 processor socket. You need a mounting bracket like this, http://www.suntekstore.com/Socket-478-Intel-CPU-Mounting-Bracket.html

You're welcome.
Sometimes those brackets are hard to find

Thinking about upgrading the CPU on an Emachine 4313. It is a socket P board with an M530 in it and wondered if I could go to a dual core Penryn CPU?

The Socket P has 478 pins, but is not pin-compatible with Socket M or Socket 478. Socket P is also known as a 478-pin Micro FCPGA or μFCPGA-478. Google it for stores that carry dual core Socket P chips.

Cpu upgrade

To upgrade the cpu, you will still need to use the same type of cpu. A socket 478 motherboard will not work with a socket 775 processor. The pin configuration is different.

P4 ugrade required

Sadly you wont find any 1066Mhz FSB processors for the Socket 478. The best you can find is the 3.4Ghz with 800Mhz FSB. It might be cheaper and also better value for you to get a Socket 775 based motherboard and Core2 Duo processor. The value range E2160/2180 processors or the E4300/4400 processors have been tested to be even faster than the Socket 775 Pentium Dual 3.4Ghz and they also use less power.

An article on socket 478 for you http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20040123103754.html
