If you misplaced your Remote Control you can still access most settings
via the MAIN MENU screen when you press both CH UP (8) and
DOWN (9) on the TV set.
• Some features of your TV Set will not be accessible without the Remote
Control. If you lost your Remote Control, contact a Sharp Authorized
Servicer by calling 1-800-BE-SHARP for a replacement.

the close caption feature is different than the language in the menu.
Try to find the close caption feature in the menu and get it off. Now if she hit a button then chances are you find some button with that description in the remote control (close caption or text) make sure is off.

Your only real choice is getting the replacement remote for the tv so that you can access the menu and then do a channel scan and relearn the channels. The cheapest would be buying a refurbished one from this link:
