It could be a bad earth, this will make the fuel gauge either not work or work erractically.
Fuel gauges on older cars are pretty basic.
I'd be checking all my earth points, I'd also be looking at the fuel sender in the tank. It is possible that with all the work it has had, the wire has worn out. It is just a basic rheostat of a single piece of thin wire attached usually to a ceramic block at either pole. Most often this wears through and when that happens you will some times see either no gauge activity or it will work fine from empty to half but not beyond that. Also some times it works great from full to half then plummets to empty. Generally this is where it is worn.
If your serious you could take your fuel sender and gauge to someone who can recondition instruments, and have them reco'ed as a set.
SOURCE: 2000 Holden Astra - Hi there, I require a radio
If you have removed the radio from the car or changed/disconnected the car battery sometime back then you need Jaguar radio unlock code to get the sound back. You can purchase it from here.
There are few ways to unlock the radio
1. Refer to your manual. You must be having the code as well as the procedure to unlock it.
2. If you do not have the code then you can purchase it online. You will get the code within a day. For that you have to collect 2 information.
a. VIN - Vehicle Identification number, usually found at the bottom of the driver side windshield.
b. Radio serial number. You can get it on the top of the radio after removing it from the car.
c. You can purchase the code from here.
