From the Setup CD-ROM

I think your files system is corrupt.( Mainly your boot ). Try using this command in command prompt with admin rights withour quotes "chkdsk /r". If not you can use the same command in recovery console. For recovery console you have to insert your OS Cd and select r for repair open. Thank You!!!

hi there, here's the step by step procedure for reformatting.

1. insert the recovery disk first to your cd rom
2. restart pc and keep on tapping the F12 key
3. once you are prompted for boot options select your cd/dvd rom drive

your computer will now boot up from your cd rom and will initialize the setup.

Try the recovery console from a windows xp recovery/install disk:
To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
1.Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.Select the operating system you want to repair (you may have only one option).
4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation. From here I would try "chkdsk /r" and "fixboot"
For a list of commands that are available in Recovery Console, type recovery console commands or help at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
For information about a specific command, type help commandname at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
6.To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
Once you've done this restart the computer and see if it boots up.

This error is also cause by the hard drive storage of your pc notebook, if you know how to locate the hard drive you just have to remove it for a while and then put it back, some loose connection of the hard drive cause the problem, if you find it still not working, you need to repair the system startup of Windown XP it is corrupted that's why it wont start.

Hi, you have nothing to type there. You mean you have chosen the 1st section that opens recovery console,right? not that one. You should see the Terms of Agreement in your WinXP cd first, press F8. A section containing to install a Windows XP appears, Press Enter. Then that's the time it will search for your previous Win xp installation. In will then let you choose whether you will install a fresh copy of WinXP OR to Repair it. Choose the Repair. It will automatically repairs and format your Harddisk without deleting your files in it.  IF there's no Option to repair it, that's the time you will have to go to Recovery Console.
