Im assuming the "eject" button is not respomding, no worries REAL easy fix, if you have a paper clip, if not find something the same diameter, if so, unfold paper clip and there should be a small hole on the door next to the "eject" button, insert end of paper clip, retrieve dvd.. :)

There is a problem with the DVD ROM. Maybe it is not well fixed and causing conflict which result in making the computer slow. And maybe it is not contacting the system well again, that's why it worked and later not worked when it loose contact.
I would advice that you shut down your system, loose the DVD ROM and put the system back on without the DVD ROM after a little while when the windows must have settled, shut down the system again and fixed back the DVD ROM. Make sure it is well connected and put the system back on again. Test the DVD ROM and see if it would give the same problem. If it does, then may be you will have to replace the DVD ROM.
One a DVD ROM is bad, another one needs to be purchased, because it is usually difficult to repair DVD ROM expect in minor case.
