R51 roughpads don't have a physical 'switch' for Ethernet/LAN ports - there is a toggle switch (front left surface, about 1 inch inwards)... but this is for bluetooth and wifi only.
Assuming you have windows 7.. goto start>control panel> network and internet>view network status and tasks>change adapter settings.
right click on the LAN connection and click ENABLE.
