im not familiar with cubase but if its anything like logic and reason, you should check the midi options maybe in preferences of the cubase programm and make sure that the appropriate soundcard is selected, so in this case the us-144.
and sometimes it could be one of those stupid midi glitches, and so you have to restart your computer.
maybe the best opt is to get a better soundcard.

I haven't ever used this program but it sounds like you have your MIDI channel assigned to the wrong number. The default MIDI channel for drums is channel 10. Assign the track you are trying to play drums from to channel 10 in your program.

Try downloading MidiOx and troubleshooting with it. It will show you if you have any midi activity and which channel your Casio is transmitting on etc.
