This can be tricky depending on the brand. Most pull start systems will have 3 or 4 bolts on the fly wheel- puppeteer cover.when you take the cover off, it should all stay together. It will have a plastic wheel inside that the rope winds aroundand in the center of the wheel should have a bolt. Remove the bolt and remove the plastic wheel, but be careful it will have a wind up spring, but most newer models have an enclosed spring.you should see a hole in the side for the pull rope. Insert the rope through the outer sheild first and thenthen in theslot of the wheel(kinda like stringing a yo-yo) then insert the end of the rope on the side of the wheelwheel in the hole, and tie a small tight knot in the rope so it won't slip through.then put the wheel back in the shield, and wind up the rope around the wheel. You should feel the spring tighten up. Don't let go of the spring tensioned wheel and rePlace the center wheel bolt. The handle should sticking out the sheild hole. Now replace the assembly on the mower. Some models you have to wind the spring and hold it tensioned with a wire while you replace the sheild, this tricky. But most wind upwhen you pull the rope out. So when you release the rope the spring will wind it back up. Good luck this task can be tough for first timers.
