My Sharp electronic dictionary has developed horizontal and vertical lines on the screen and therefore I am unable to read the text displayed on the screen. I tried changing the battery too but still the problem is there. can you please provide me a solution to this ? i will appreciate it.

I had this problem after the unit was dropped on the floor. I had nothing to lose, so I pried the cover off the back of the screen with my fingernails. You can see the grooves on the edges to pry it off. It just snaps back on. Inside I found a circuit board with 3 black pillow-looking things and a bunch of tiny solder joints, all marked by tiny numbers. Joint number C503 wiggled like a loose tooth, indicating a less than perfect union. I wiggled it with my finger and caused all kinds of weirdness on the screen, as well as some instances of perfect clarity. I occasionally had to push the reset button on the bottom to see the screen again, but not always. I eventually wiggled the joint just right and the screen looked great. With that, I snapped the back cover on, and it has been fine since. One line on the extreme right end, but I can live with it. If the problem comes back to where I can't read the screen contents, I may take it to a local electronics repair shop and ask someone to re-do that one solder joint. Like I said, I've got nothing to lose.
So far, repairs have been free.

SOURCE: The display of my SHARP

hi,

Mine also has vertical lines in sharp and this the 2nd time I buy this device because of this problem. It seems that the problem is from the joint data cable where we keep open and close the cover.

I don't recommend you buy another one because i threw 2 of them because of this problem - although sharp dictionary is the best among others concerning the definitions.

Thank you.
