I have the code to the dsc ptd1640u, but i don't know how to set it. i need the manual. do i have to have a home phone?

Check the Output specifications on the transformer in question and note the power output or 'Secondary' format. If it is listed as 'VAC', then the transformer can be wired either direction, as it provides a low voltage ( 16.5 VAC ) alternating current power source for the alarm panel. If it provides 'DAC', polarity WILL matter and you may have to have a professional check your installation.
