I hav a compaq pc d510 sff evo pent 4 which i got second hand and i upgraded memory and hard drive ide. it has a floopy i just ant to turn off but i think its a prine drive and when i use my windows xp disc it wont boot but i dont havea windows boot disk ? do i need one to get out of this mess. Im also learning to build computers slowly and painfully . grin. Help thanks
You can solve this by going into the bios setup & changing the boot order. Make the dvd/cd drive 1st in boot line then hdd. This should allow you to boot up from the windows xp disc. Hope this helps & please rate this solution fixya. Thanks.

Thanks i did that and its has not helped it is loading to install xp disk but when it gets to partitons it say they are not xp compatiable they need to be format i think. first is unpartition 8 mb and second is partition 1 (FAT32) 39190 mb. an it will go no further.
