Often on these HP computers there are green tabs that lock the cd or dvd drives in place when you put them in the case. To get them to work you need to have the "screw like" stubs that go with the locking system. If you are replacing an old drive check to make sure you have removed the stubs from the sides of it, then screw them into the new drive in about the same location.

I've checked on the specs of dc7100, and it shows that it has multibay optional for 12.7mm removable drives .

I've difficulties finding the exact DVD compatible for dc7100 since it seems that it's already been discontinued.

Try playing the CD in another player, if it plays OK, than you have narrowed it down to a problem with your PC. If this drive had a wire that plugged into the main board than chances are you need to do the same thing.
