There is not a whole lot of information that you are giving us. There would be two reasons the touchpad does not work...one, there is a small button above the touchpad and if it is red (orange) the pad is off and you have to tap that button until the light turns blue. If the light is blue, then the tapping part of the pad has been turned off in mouse properties. Open control panel > mouse Properties > device settings > click on settings button and enable tapping. All other touchpad settings are in there to modify also.

Guru, I am having similar problems. I accidentally disabled my touchpad on my dv6000 and cannot go to the tab Buttons Pointers Pointer Options Wheel Hardwared Device Settings to allow me to follow the instructions you gave parrotheadpc above. I work from home and I am desperate, it just happened and need to work. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME. I tried tapping on the picture which is in blue like you said above and nothing. Sonia 09/08/10

1. Go to control panel
2. open mouse options
3. click the device settings tab and you should see your touch pad as one of the devices.
4. Make sure your touch pad is highlighted and click the settings button
5. one of the options is tapping, and you can enable it here

That should get your mouse to click on touch pad taps.

Hi, I am using HTC touch P3450 model.Suddenly touch screen is not responding. So I gave a hard reset for factory restore settings. After loading the OS its asking to TAP the screen, but my touch is not...

Your touch pad need to be replaced. I had the same problem and order a complete face lift which includes the touch pad from ebay. It was included aslo the special tools needed to remove the screws. There many videos showing how to desasemble the phone in youtube, just search with your model and you will find videos showing all the dtails how.
Please not that the problem is with touch pad which is the one you touch directly on it, is only vinil cover and is working as a keyboard. Under touch pad is located the lcd display of the phone which other part .

Mouse touch-pad

Click Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings (tab) > Settings (right hand side, immediately under the white box with your touch pad device listed)

Select "Tapping" on the left and make sure it is enabled.
If tapping was enabled, go to "Sensitivity" on the left and adjust the touch settings.

Thanks for using the FixYa forums!

Toshiba touch pad not working to tap of finger

First got to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Mouse(or there may be a separate Touch Pad setup) and check were options for touchpad Settings Options are tabbed or listed.

All touchpads allow on/off settings for Tap or NoTap. Also, check Sensitivity Settings. If very low, then Tap would have to be very hard to be recognized.

Next, reboot your computer.
