Why don't I get a tone to record my greeting?
The message itself does not contain a tone. The message is stored on your carrier's servers. When someone calls you and you don't answer, the message will play and when the message is over a tone should play. There was probably something corrupted in your audio message and the tone wasn't triggered.

Why does my red message waiting keep blinking all of the time. No message.
Your number was phoned by an Auto Dialer from a marketing call centre. As soon as the dialer hears the 'leave a message' tone, it ends the call. That registers with YOUR phone as a Message Left.
If you had answered the call and said Hello, you will get a real person answer you in about 5 seconds.
Not a problem with your phone.
I realize this is an old question, but it has been answered 3 times with posters using AI Chat GPT 4 copy pasted answers which I have removed. Let's see if this stays answered now.

My base phone only rings twice then stops, and leaves a number. When I ring that number, I am told it does not exist? Why does this happens?
Question edited for clarity, punctuated and turned into a question. 'no', is not the same as 'No.' and it is better to use the word 'number'. This website does not do well on abbreviations.
There are two reasons this happens and it is not a fault of your phone.
One trick is to get your phone to ring twice, so that you become curious and phone the number back. The sting is that the number you call is a premium rate number. These places are often in lawless offshore islands, so you can't get the money back.
The second trick is that an automated dialer is calling random numbers to see if they exist. Then shortly after that, you will get a marketing call from India. The number calling you in both calls is 'spoofed' that is to say that they use software that inserts a random number, so when you call back, the number doesn't exist. They use a number that is close to yours. I get calls from 416 85* **** numbers which is close to my own 416 86*. The last ones were from India saying they were from my Telco and were scamming.
