Picture with distorted, flickering, darkened area on rt. side of screen . Up to half of the screen sometimes. Sometimes looks like vertical hold is rolling some. Then will be clear with no or tiny amount...

There are several possibilities here.

To be able to help better we'd need to know the model number.

The most likely suspects are the T-CON board, one of the two backlight inverters and the display itself.

Of those only the last one is usually not curable.

Here's an example of a popular set of inverters that , when one goes bad you can get one half of the screen very dark:

http://www.coppelltvrepair.com/p/428/sanyo-dp42848-p42848-00-backlight-inverters-replacement-for-dark-screen-no-image-problem

On the other hand, if you have vertical shadows and some flickering that's probably NOT going to be a backlight inverter.

Flickering would be caused by either the T-CON or the panel.

Since a bad panel is mostly NOT curable you may want to check the price of a replacement T-CON and decide if it is worth taking a shot with one before you displace the TV.

Again, the thing to start with is the model.

Hope this helps.

Restart problem

Try installing updated APCI (advanced power and cooling interface) drivers, which come from the maker of the motherboard and are generally on that maker's site, indexed by board part number.
You also have to have APCI enabled in the BIOS, or sometimes with jumpers. Some motherboards were made broken as far as hibernation features and won't be curable, but many are curable, as long as the OS (e.g. WinXP, Ubuntu Linux, MacOS X) is also willing.

You might pose your next question in non-generic territory, so people with the same motherboard can learn of the cure, rather than having to slog through this catch-all category!
