Paul has woken up a 6 year old unanswered question and I suspect the OP have probably moved in the intervening years. My advice would be to give them the existing combination and let them change it. If it is a dial combination, it is very complex and has to be done very carefully because of the decreasing number of revolutions after each entered number. Never ever close the door until you have unlocked it at least 4 times. Write the number down, but add 5 to each number for security 25, 35, 80 would be written as 30, 40, 85. If you think you might forget the '5', put a phone number as the bottom
'Locksmith 416 555 2141'.
Electronic locks are very easy, there is a red reset button inside the door panel where the batteries are. Press the button, enter the number twice and they beep, beep, long bleep.

Hi Lorraine Bradshaw, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
What is the make and model number? Have you tried searching online for the manual for that make and model? Maybe somebody has put out a video showing how, so look for that also. If not, ask your local locksmith.
Find the model number and search online for the manual. If this is a carbon monoxide alarm, it does have an expiration, and when that is reached, it throws an error code and stops working. Check the manual first to see what the end-of-life code is. If it is EOL, check to see if there is a customer loyalty trade-in/recycle program. I'm not saying there is one, but it's worth a look.
Full 'make model (what it is)' as first 3 words please. It depends if it is a night stand box, or a full size safe with 2 AR15s, 3 long guns, a 12 gauge, 4 Glocks, a 1911A1, a .44 magnum and 1,000 rounds of ammo. The security standards are different.
That is unfortunate. If it is a dial combination, destructive entry is often the only way. A locksmith will advise. What about the over-ride key?
If it is electronic with a keypad, entry is fast using a rare earth puck magnet.

This question has been sitting here on Fixya for 6 years showing the serial number to the safe. With that number someone can get a spare key. Then they just need to find where you live. :>D
I presume you fixed it? Some have a knob or a handle, some like hotel safes, you press a button and the lock is motorized to lock.
I can't find a manual, it is totally unknown.
