Security System Low Battery?
All full system alarms have a backup battery in the control unit and in the external bell or sounder unit. Both are to provide alarm coverage during power outages or intentional cutting of power. I was called out to my premise by the police because my alarm was going of. I found the external bell box on the floor and the bell still ringing due to its internal battery. It made enough noise that the the wannabe burglars ran off. I went inside, turned the alarm off, went outside and connected the bell back up and the bell stopped ringing.
Open up the control box and you will see a small sealed lead acid battery 6" x 4" x 2" with two spade connectors. Look at the date on it. They do wear out, and are readily available. Check the voltage of it and also the charging voltage from the transformer. The whole system works on 12 volts.
Low Battery States
A Low Battery Warning is most often displayed as BAT, LOW BATT, or SYSTEM LO BAT on the touchpad. In addition, many systems will "beep" or "chirp" to alert you that a system or sensor battery is low. This warning signals that your battery must be either recharged or replaced.

My doorbell has gone quiet
It may have this silent option in either choice for volume or melody. My doorbell has numbered buttons that need to be pressed together with the button to open the door, in order to access these functions.
Another thought is that a battery needs to be replaced.
